Introduction
Edge computing is meant to provide computing services on local servers and devices. Edge computing offers efficient cost-for solutions, one of the main reasons for switching from Cloud base solutions to edge-based solutions. The platform has made it very easy to analyze the data without any latency. Data processing is done at the initial phase on local devices before it goes for an analysis process. The data can be structured or unstructured, partially analyzed, and quickly processed by Edge computing. Everything has pros and cons, and the same is with edge computing, which will be discussed in this article.
Advantages of Edge Computing
Latency
In today’s world, no one needs even one second of interruption with the loading of the data, which is the great advantage of edge computing. Edge computing creates a good level of load balance through which sorted and clean data is taken and presented as a result. So it offers a high speed of data delivery.
High Security
Security is another factor for which each and every organization is searching to make the data safe from hackers. Edge computing provides the same where the data can be in high security, and even data can be processed without network connections. It also makes sure in the scenario when hackers can gain access to the cloud still, the user’s information will be safe. The advanced security and storage system from previous years has been improving and providing a safer environment.
Scalable
There is a centralized data center from which data is transmitted and modified for an unlimited time. This scenario has a high risk of modifying and destroying original data. But edge computing make use of IoT network to resolve this scenario. Edge computing has made the system scalable, and local networks will function even the nodes are down.
Disadvantages of Edge Computing
Infrastructure cost
There is a need for considerable investments in infrastructure, which becomes costly. It uses old network infrastructure, which is expensive and can be replaced with modern devices and be cost-friendly. Even the cost of conversion to an edge network has proven to be costly. The bandwidths also require a considerable investment, and hardware and software for good performance also require investments.
Security
Edge computing has provided good security to the data but has also reduced the quality of data. Even some data are not good in quality and our vulnerable to bridges because not every device has a built-in authentication and security service.
Data loss
The data conversion process from one center to another is tricky, and there is a high risk of data loss. Even the process requires space and money and can also take a good time. At the same time, central data storage can be proven much better.
Conclusion
There are a lot of options in the market for one problem from which Edge computing has been one. There are advantages and disadvantages, but the disadvantages can not be neglected. This is the reason why some experts say that the platform can vanish soon from the market.
