What is Cloud computing?
Cloud computing delivers the resources you need on demand via the Internet. Cloud computing resources include storage, memory, data analytics, artificial intelligence, security, etc. These services are available on request and are highly scalable means you can add or delete resources to meet changing needs of the business.
Cloud computing offers its services in 3 service models Software-as-a-service (SAAS), Platform-as-a-service (PAAS), and Infrastructure-as-a-service (IAAS). Its demand has increased exponentially because of its excellent and valuable services.
What is Edge Computing?
Edge computing refers to processing data to local servers, which means the data should be available near the sources. Edge computing is practiced to reduce latency and bandwidth and decrease the need for long-distance communication. An individual can leverage fast services, improve product qualities, and minimize network problems by approaching edge computing.
Edge computing is used in a wide variety, like for security purposes, communication, intelligent utility grid analysis, and more efficient web caching. Edge computing also ensures that the internet services are running fast; content delivery networks (CDNs) deploy data servers close to the users, allowing busy websites to load quickly and operate.
Difference between Edge Computing & Cloud Computing
Cloud Computing | Edge Computing |
---|---|
Cloud computing delivers the resources you need on demand via the Internet. Cloud computing resources include storage, memory, data analytics, artificial intelligence, security, etc. | Edge computing refers to processing data to local servers, which means the data should be available near the sources for effective operations without network issues. |
In cloud computing, data is routed to end-users computers. | In edge computing, data is located near the sources or computers through local servers. |
Cloud computing is an architecture that is not time driven and not made for network threats. | Edge computing is an exceptional architecture that is used to process time-sensitive data. |
Cloud computing specializes in devices and can deliver its resources via the Internet. | Edge computing is beneficial to specialize and intelligent devices that respond to a particular machine in a specific way. |
The advantages of cloud computing are scalable, on-demand delivery of resources, data analytics, artificial intelligence, memory, etc. | The advantages of edge computing are improving network productivity, taking appropriate actions to gather data locally, lowering bandwidth, collaborating with local edge data centers, etc. |
The instances of cloud computing are Gmail, WhatsApp for messaging, which stores data in the cloud, Dropbox, Salesforce for customer access, and development tools and frameworks. | The instances of edge computing are Broadcasting utilities for high network propagation, medical teams, and self-driving cars using edge computing features. |
