What is Cloud Computing?
Cloud computing is a platform that provides virtual services and products over the Internet. It also offers solutions to problems related to real-time industry or business issues. It ensures to provide security of the data. The services include networking, software, databases, analytics, and storage.
Cloud computing has three types of service model, which includes Software-as-a-service (SaaS), Platform-as-a-service (PaaS), and Infrastructure as a service (IaaS). These service models approach and satisfy demands and secure benefits through resources. Companies offering these kinds of cloud computing services are called cloud providers.
What is Traditional Computing?
Before the cloud came into existence, organizations used to store their data on servers and hard drives. Servers were a physical data center running a complete network system for daily operations. It consists of various pieces of hardware, such as desktops and hard drives, which are connected by a network. At the same time, cloud computing refers to a fully virtualized platform.
In this type of computing, individuals have to purchase additional hardware and upgrades to scale and support more users.
Difference between Cloud Computing and Traditional Computing
|Cloud Computing||Traditional Computing|
|Cloud computing is a virtualized platform that delivers its services over the Internet.||Traditional computing offers services through local servers that serve clients with a local network (LAN); the web is often unavailable.|
|We can access data anytime and from anywhere.||Data can only access by physical hard drives, website servers, and where the data is stored.|
|It requires a fast, authentic Internet connection to access data anytime.||It does not require any internet connection.|
|It provides scalability and elasticity with a load balancer by which we can add or delete resources to meet changing demands.||It does not support the scalability and elasticity of resources.|
|Cloud computing provides on-demand storage that we can get within a click and eliminates buying the resources and managing our own data infrastructure in advance.||It does not provide on-demand storage; also, the quantity is meager.|
|It takes place on third-party servers that third-party hosting companies host.||It takes place on physical hard drives and website servers.|
|It offers pricing models such as subscription-based, pay-per-use, and hybrid pricing, saving developers a lot of money.||In traditional computing, the users have to buy expensive resources and manage or operate independently. It has no such pricing facilities as compared to cloud computing.|
|The provider’s support team serves cloud service.||It requires a team to maintain and monitor the system, which will require a lot of time and effort.|
