History of Edge Computing

Preface – This post is part of the Edge Computing series.

Introduction

The concept of edge computing was launched in 1990. The direct action was to introduce notes at the geographical location, which will be closer to the user to deliver data without latency. Edge computing is a type of computing and data storage closer to the source data to process the data faster. It has helped to improve the bandwidth and response times. The most significant difference between cloud computing and edge computing is that- Cloud computing is operated on big data. In contrast, edge computing is performed on instant data. Let us grab some information about the history of Edge computing and throw some light on its launch and evolution.

History of Edge Computing

Edge computing was launched in 1990 with the primary focus of developing the concept of ports and decreasing latency with the solution of processing the data much closer to the user. In 1997 the technology of mobile and utilizing computing with mobile technology was Idea by computer scientist Brian Noble. Computing technology was a revolutionary idea, and the concept of speech recognition came into the market. But at that time, the whole process was named cyber-frigging, which is now a speech recognition by Apple and Google. Then in 1999, the new concept of PO to poor computing was added, where one system could communicate with another using edge computing Technology. In 2006 when AWS came across the vast market was turned to its EC2 service. In 2009, the VM(virtual machine) technology was launched. In the same year, two-level architecture was adopted for edge computing. Then after more years of development, in 2012, fog computing to promote IoT and scalability introduced by Cisco. Then the main focus was on developing on-edge solutions to overcome real-time issues.

Tasks Performed by Edge Computing

  • It utilizes the offloading concept to reduce the resources of the mobile application.
  • Data storage is now accessible through edge devices and also helps increase data privacy.
  • The data is now processed too fast, and the response time has also shortened. Hence the concept of autonomous vehicles is introduced.
  • The notes can handle the server traffic easily by distributing the request made by the user.
  • A large amount of data is now easy to manage and connect through the cloud. Hence it has reduced the expense of internet bandwidth for data processing.

Conclusion

Edge computing has made a significant change in the analytic data field. The latency has also decreased, and data security is increased with the help of edge computing. It is the type of technology that will be highly scalable in the future and has attracted the market cap rapidly. It has been proven as the solution to many use cases and real-time issues. There were many challenges that were faced by the growth of technology, but the solutions have made the excellent position of technology in the market. In every sector, there has been tremendous innovation in the past decade due to edge computing.
