Introduction
As the trusted advisor for all things Salesforce a.k.a Admin, we’ll be responsible to bring in beneficial changes to our org. Changes that result in a productivity boost are always a win! One such change that everyone is going to thank you for is Compact Layouts!
So what is a Compact Layout? Let’s find out.
What is the concept of Compact Layouts?
Compact Layouts determine which fields appear in a record’s highlight panel at the very top of the record, it doesn’t end there, they also control the fields that appear in the extended lookup card when we hover over a record’s related information page.
This quick access to key information helps our Users become more productive and enables them to easily manage their work.
Salesforce provides default compact layouts, but sometimes that’s not good enough and we’ll be required to create custom compact layouts that fit our needs. Let’s master the art of creating Compact Layouts.
Steps to Create a Compact Layout
Follow these steps to create a Compact Layout :
1. From Setup, click Object Manager.
2. Open the Object, Account.
3. From the sidebar, click Compact Layouts.
4. Click New.
Enter the following :
- Label: Account Compact Layout
- Name : Account_Compact_Layout
6. Add the following fields to Selected Fields :
- Account Name
- Annual Revenue
- Billing Address
- Customer Priority
- Phone
7. Click Save.
How to Customize Record Highlights with Compact Layouts
Let’s customize the Record Highlight for Account Object Records using the Compact Layout we created just now.
1. Click Compact Layout Assignment.
2. Click Edit Assignment.
3. Select Account Compact Layout from the drop-down menu and click Save.
Example
Way to go! Let’s go to an Account Object Record and take a look at the highlight panel to see how the changes would seem to our Users.
Look at that! All those fields we added to Account Compact Layout are visible in the Highlights Panel of this Account record.
I want to be sure that the extended lookup card for this record also displays the same fields. I navigated to an Opportunity with Grand Hotels & Resorts Ltd as the Account Name and voila, the lookup card features the same fields.
Finally, let’s see if these changes reflect in the mobile app too.
Well, isn’t this just perfect? This is what the same account record looks like in the mobile app!
