Preface – This post is part of the Cloud Computing series.

Introduction

A public cloud is a service provided by a cloud owned and operated by a provider and delivered or used by all via the internet. With the public cloud, all the infrastructure and development are managed by providers, and people can use those services as it is publically available to all. The most convenient public cloud is Microsoft Azure.

Public cloud services are sometimes free or available through some subscriptions. Other than there are pricing schemes and the pay-as-you-go model for big organizations. The public cloud offers scalable RAM, storage, and flexible bandwidth that is universally acceptable and offers automatic data backups.

Public Cloud Infrastructure

Public cloud service is an entirely virtual environment with high network connectivity and performance. The public cloud infrastructure is multi-tenant, allowing sharing of resources with others. Resources like storage, compute power, and memory, are shared between multiple customers; however, they are isolated at the software and logical network levels and do not interfere with each other’s workload. This makes the public cloud infrastructure scalable and durable.

Who offers Public Cloud Service?

Microsoft Azure

Microsoft Azure has Microsoft’s public cloud services which offer high scalability, storage, memory, artificial intelligence, and infrastructure. It supports various programming languages and frameworks for the development of new technologies. Microsoft Azure also provides services like SAAS, PAAS, and IAAS. You can access services and data using the web browser and share hardware and storage.

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

AWS is the most popular cloud because of its highly advanced services. A few of its services are Simple storage service (S3), Elastic Beanstalk, Elastic block store (EBS), Relational database service (RDS), etc. AWS also supports Data intelligence and API support.

Oracle Cloud

Oracle’s public cloud is the most integrated public cloud service that offers various resources on demand. The service models by oracle are Software-as-a-service (SaaS), Platform-as-a-service (PaaS), Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), and Data-as-a-service (DaaS). Some of the primary services of oracle are GoldenGate cloud service, Integration Cloud, API platform cloud service, and SOA cloud service. Also, many more organizations offer public cloud services, and the three mentioned above are one of them.

Advantages of Public Cloud Computing

Lower cost

Most public cloud services offer free services or at a meager cost which is beneficial for small startups and enterprises. Most public cloud service providers allow businesses to pay per hour or second.

Trouble-free installation

A public cloud is very easy to set up in less time. Easy to buy over the internet, an IT team can set up a public cloud without expert help. These save time and can help to focus more on the development part.

Less Maintenance

The cloud provider is responsible for maintaining the cloud’s hardware, software, and networks. Enterprise does not need to worry about updates, security, and up-to-date infrastructure upgrades. It allows running the development with minimum staff, significantly reducing the overall costs.

User needs can be easily fulfilled with scalability

Public Cloud can gradually increase and decrease the IT resources as per the need.

Conclusion

The public cloud helps in providing high performance, high bandwidth, and automatic data backup options. There are many advantages of the public cloud, as discussed in the article.
