Introduction
A cloud creates an IT environment to share its resources over a network. In contrast to this statement, computing is a form of computing in which the data centers are located much closer to the user over the edge of a network. The technologies are used to handle the workload and the increasing data. Every company is moving its business to the cloud and utilizing its applications to make its projects more productive. Due to the good benefits of cloud computing, around 70% of companies use its applications. Cloud computing is beneficial in predicting the organization’s growth and helps in giving the solution to real-time problems in the industry. The distributed environment of edge computing has helped to store and compute the data quickly and fastly. Now the question arises does edge computing and Cloud computing is same? Here we will learn the differences between edge computing and cloud computing.
Edge Computing
Edge computing has given rise to a distributed environment for storing the data near the user to avoid latency. This procedure does not require scanning the data; hence, much time is saved. Whenever a user makes a request, the cloud comes to the user in response to the request, and the detailed data is processed. The virtual machines are utilized as a physically located data source where information is produced. It has enabled the deployment of computing resources with a transmission channel for easy fulfillment of the requirements. There are many advantages of Edge computing, such as
- It has helped to provide network security to avoid attackers and save the system from power failures in case of DDoS.
- It has helped to increase efficiency and network productivity by reducing latency.
Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is a technology that utilizes different resources through server and network access. There are three prior models of cloud computing: platform as a service, software as a service, and infrastructure as a service. Each model enables unique features and packages for the users to experience the applications.
- Platform as a service helps the users to implement the software and cloud to their platform. In this model, the users may not maintain OS and internet connectivity.
- Software as a service helps the users to utilize the hosting service of the cloud.
- Infrastructure has a service that enables the users to monitor and handle OS and storage.
The users can even choose the payment models to get flexible models, such as the pay-per-use model. The pay-per-use model enables the users to pay for the resources they have used. The bill also consists of the utilization time. It also helps to optimize the cost for the users.
Difference between Cloud Computing and Edge Computing
S.No | Cloud computing | Edge computing |
---|---|---|
1. | Cloud computing is established for developing and utilizing programming languages. | edge computing enables multiple application programs with different running Times. |
2. | There are storage applications used by cloud computing, such as Amazon EC2, Google Cloud, and many more. | The data is stored on the edges system only. |
3. | It enables customized hosting data to be stored over the web. | A new user can link their system to the network. They can also build their network. |
Conclusion
Both the Technologies of cloud computing and edge computing a different from each other due to their features and base theorem used by each. Edge computing has leveled up cloud computing, due to which many organizations are adopting edge Technology over cloud computing.
